Ga Ga Ga Gaaaalipata!!!

Disclaimer: this is just an analysis/post-mortem of the movie and not a review, so those who havent watched the movie might not understand what i am trying to convey!

Yogaraj Bhat has proved that Mungaru Male was not a fluke with his latest film "GAALIPATA". Film which will neither be remembered for its story nor for the 'take-home' moral lessons, but for some stupendous performances from Ganesh & Bhavana Rao, and for amazing camerawork from Rathnavelu & his team, and for the picturisque locations of Kodachaadri and other places in Karnataka, and ofcourse the trademark dialogues of Yogaraj Bhat.

As i told earlier, this Yograj's movie doesn't have a story (yet again) if you are looking for one!! But it has all the formula to keep you engrossed for 2.5hrs, all thanks to Ganesh, who at times looks like he is still in MM's hangover, but manages to make us laugh with his comic timing nevertheless. Ganesh dominates the other 2 heros completely in this movie. Amongst the ladies, the newbie Bhavana Rao rocks. She hardly ever gives us the feeling that she is a newcomer (unlike Diganth and Rajesh Krishna).

First the negatives,
1. Stupid climax - I just dont understand what Yogaraj was trying to show? is it that he wanted to show something more exciting than the Jog Falls shots in MM? Next time onwards i know what to expect from Yogi regarding the story and especially the climax.... NOTHING!

2. Performances by Diganth, Rajesh Krishnan and Padmaja Rao - Diganth looks good only in patches, he still has a long way to go before he can be termed even a decent actor. Rajesh shows on his face that this is his first movie, very amateurish (cant stop comparing him to Jadeja in his first movie!!). Padmaja Rao screams through out the movie and looks funny (and irritating) in senti scenes.

3. Yogaraj Bhat - in his direction and editing, looks lethargic to say the least. Song picturisations could surely have been much better. He looks very much inspired by Shankar, especially in songs "bedaru bombe" and "na dheem tana". Climax is simply pathetic. I thought he has wasted Anant Nag. Scenes involving the wild-boar are very amateurish.

Now, the positives (which over-rule the negatives)

1. Gani a.k.a Ganesh - the biggest plus point of this movie. He is simply brilliant in his dialogue delivery and comic timing and acting as a whole. He has that charm to enthrall his fans in every single scene of his. He has learnt the trade of cinema pretty fast i must say!

2. Cinematography by Rathnavelu - I dont have words to praise him and his work. Absolutely stunning. Even though he has enhanced the pictures at most places, i hardly felt he overused the technology anywhere.

3. Music by Harikrishna - even though its not comparable to MM's music, it surely negates the non-existing storyline. Some songs lingers in our minds, especially Sonu's "Minchaagi neenu baralu". BGM in the movie is nothing great, but not bad either.

4. Bhavana Rao - what a debut!!! I just loved her throughout the movie (unlike her fellow debutant!!). She was more like Kareena in Jab We Met, a power packed performance in those short scenes of hers, almost flawless i must say. She has managed to steal the limelight from other seasoned actresses like Daisy Bopanna and Neetu. Neetu was quite good as well, Daisy is wasted completely.

5. Rangayana Raghu - as Gani's father. Even though he has very less screen space, he has managed to give another rocking performance (must praise Yogi for his dialogues as well). On the second thought, to contradict myself, I feel its hightime he gets out of his stereotypical dialogue delivery!

All in all, its complete paisa-vasool movie, very nice entertainer, loved it especially since me and my friends could relate to the characters in the movie.

A Real Story . . . .

Date : June 1st 2006

Location : Somewhere in South Bangalore

It was raining heavily that morning, was really a welcome break for Anu, just like any other Bangalorean, to see the showers after a long long summer.

I just adored Anu's smile. Unknowingly, she had become my latest crush. Whenever I used to see her on my way to office, her smile and her eyes captivated my soul. She used to give lotsa warmth with her 1000 watt smile!

Anu always loved going out and dancing in the rain. Even before she opened her eyes that morning, she could smell the wet soil, the breeze of the monsoons. Instantly she started thinking about how it would be when she goes out and play in the rain. To cut it short, she was happy.

And, her happiness was short-lived as well...

Meanwhile, I was getting ready to go to office. As usual, I got up late. I had no time to think about rain, dance, breeze, smell, mess except for searching for my jacket. I left for my bus stop which is just a 10 mins walk from my place. Amidst the heavy rain, I could see Anu at a distance. She was with her father and I got to witness one of the cruelest things ever to happen in my life.

Its a nightmare and the most unfortunate thing to happen for any girl on earth. Her own father was catching her hand and dragging her to an auto. The auto driver started helping Anu's father to hold her and get her into the auto. I just stood startled and could do nothing but to see both the guys taking her into the rickshaw by force and brutally,

made her go to SCHOOL the first day . . .

Life without college is ....

# As interesting as watching paint dry.
# As shitty as a running nose.
# As dull as Monday mornings.
# As pissed as a fart in a vaccum cleaner.
# As slow as molasses in January.
# As snug as a bug in the rug.
# As weary as a dog without his master.
# As useless as a one armed juggler with an itchy arse.
# As sightless as an owl in the morn.
# As confused as a hungry baby in a topless bar.
# As welcome as a fart in a telephone box.
# As exciting as watching the opera.
# As fast as Atalji's speech.
# As empty as my head right now :|
# As dumb as my boss.
# As sickening as seeing a cannibal eat.
# As dead as a dodo.
# As bugging as those puny telemarketeers.
# As lifeless as Sunny Deol's eyes.
# As rotten as Indian politics.
# As creepy as Ekta Kapoor's serials.
# As dry as Bhatta's bath towel.
# As nonsensical as this article.

LET HER . . .

Let her dance in joy
Let her hum n sing
Don't stop her when she cuts her hair
Frills n laces n low-cut dresses
Let her have them all.

Allow her to care for her glowing skin
When she laughs, let her teeth sparkle
in a wide grin.

Let her play pranks, while on shopping trips
Allow her to stand by the roadside and
eat her favorite delicacies.

She loves to kick footballs n dares to
go for hockey sticks?
Let her do all that too!!
For we know not whom she will marry?
The good, the bad or the ugly.

Prophet Mohammad & Danish Cartoons

Sep 30th 2005, the day when the Danish newspaper "The Jutland Post" published an article titled "The face of Muhammad", the day when the editor of this newspaper called upon the cartoonists to depict how Muhammad might have looked, gave raise to a backlash of millions of muslims all around the world, not only against the newspaper or the cartoonists or the editor or the Danish government or the European countries but also US of A.
I dont know what made me write this post, coz i dont have any singularist view about the cartoons or the incidents which followed it. I can say I have mixed views on this.
Firstly, I dont understand why ONLY muslims react the way they did just coz some stupid newspaper published some satire cartoons on their Prophet. I mean, I can understand the sentiments outburst of their's but in this way? killing their own people? burning their own property? so much of violence? for whose sake? I am sorry to say, no one else would have acted anyway near to the manner in which these people have reacted.
just see this : "A Pakistani political party, Jamaat-e-Islami apparently offers a roughly $10,000 reward to anyone who kills one of the cartoonists" HOLY COW!!! can you imagine this kind of statement being made by a POLITICAL PARTY???!!!

This is what the editor had to say about the cartoons : "The cartoonists treated Islam the same way they treat Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and other religions. And by treating Muslims in Denmark as equals they made a point: We are integrating you into the Danish tradition of satire because you are part of our society, not strangers. The cartoons are including, rather than excluding, Muslims...Angry voices claim the cartoon is saying that the prophet is a terrorist or that every Muslim is a terrorist. I read it differently: Some individuals have taken the religion of Islam hostage by committing terrorist acts in the name of the prophet. They are the ones who have given the religion a bad name"

This does make some sense, but yeah, the point is, what was the NEED to have these cartoons published at the first place? I bet, the editor knew what he will be facing few days after he publish the cartoons. One of the cartoons, show a caricaturist drawing the face of Muhammad by looking over his shoulder and sweating. This is a clear indication that they knew about the repurcussions. So, I do feel, there ought to be a limit for humour, especially when these newspapers have some sort of social obligations to fulfill.

I hope, the controversy dies down soon, and the political leaders dont blow up this again to get a mileage out of this, as we already know how a small silent processions can turn into a big blood shedding protests.

LET PEACE PREVAIL !

Love me as I am....

I want to be loved,
I want to be protected;
I want someone to comfort me,
Ease my tensions during the day,
Share the happiness during night-
Someone just to hold me tight.

Wipe my tears when I’m crying,
Share my pleasures when I’m laughing
Someone who can see -
THE REAL in me .

Make me recall happy memories,
Make me forget all my worries,
Someone who keeps me loving -
As the days go by;

Love my wrinkles, my grey hair,
As the years passes by;
Not my face, nor my body
But the pilgrim soul in me-
Love me as I am,
THE REAL person in me;
